3 Things

Summary

3 Things — sometimes called Change 3 Things — is a short, physical game all about mime and listening with your eyes. One player leaves the room. The other three each get an activity, then change two things about it. When the player returns, they have three minutes to spot all nine changes (three players, two changes each). The catch? They can only mime and speak in gibberish.

How to Play

  • Send one player out of the room.
  • Give each of the other three players an activity.
  • Each of those three players changes two things about their activity.
  • Bring the player back in.
  • Give them 3 minutes to guess all nine changes.
  • They can only mime and speak in gibberish — no plain words.

Required Materials

  • A bit of space to mime in and a timer for the three-minute round. For the competitive version, have a tie-breaker activity ready.

Purpose

This game gets a group warmed up, laughing, and thinking on their feet. It's a fun icebreaker that builds commitment, physicality, and object work. Guessers should make bold, specific guesses — that's where the joy comes from. Remember, the fun lives in the playing, not in getting every guess right.

Variations

  • A competitive head-to-head variation called "Six Things" exists, splitting improvisers into two teams with one naive guesser each. This version requires seven things (three per team, one tie-breaker) and teams alternate one-minute clue-giving turns. If a guess is incorrect at time expiry, the other team's guesser can "steal" a point. If tied, both teams convey the seventh activity simultaneously, and the first guesser with a predetermined signal wins if correct.
