Summary
Sit Stand Lie Lean (also called Sit, Stand, Kneel or Onstage Awareness) is a scene game for exactly four players. The rule: all through the scene, each of the four has to stay in one of four positions — sitting, standing, lying down, or leaning. The moment someone changes position, another player has to jump to fill the spot they left, so there's always one person in each. That constraint keeps you wide awake to each other and to the whole stage picture, reacting fast to hold the rule.
How to Play
- Gather 4 players for a scene, and grab a suggestion for a relationship or location to kick things off.
- Right away, arrange yourselves so one's sitting, one's standing, one's lying, and one's leaning.
- As the scene rolls on, whenever someone changes position, another player immediately moves to fill the empty spot — keeping one person in each of the four positions.
- Justify every move and position change within the story you're telling.
- Keep the scene going, holding the one-sitting, one-standing, one-lying, one-leaning rule throughout.
Required Materials
- No special props needed — just space for players to sit, stand, lie, and lean. An audience suggestion for a relationship or location usually gets the scene started. Chairs or surfaces for sitting and leaning may be implied.
